TITLE: Senior Minister
REPORTS TO: Congregation

Description

• The Senior Minister shall, in cooperation with the officers and members of the Church Board, lead the congregation in worship, provide a ministry of teaching and pastoral care, and support the Church’s mission of social justice and sharing God’s love and peace
• The Senior Minister shall, unless otherwise directed by the Church Board, be present at Church Board, Steering Committee and congregational meetings of the Church.

Full Job Description

​Qualifications

• Masters of Divinity from an accredited theological school
• Minimum 5 years pastoral experience
• Ordained and in good standing, preferably in the American Baptist Churches-USA or the United Church of Christ

Duties and Expectations

• Lead the Congregation in Worship
  • Intelligent and prophetic preaching of the Gospel
  • Collaborate with Music Director and Lay Leadership
• Officiate at the Lord’s Supper, Baptism, Confirmation, Weddings, and Funerals
• Direct a ministry of Teaching and Pastoral Care
  • Provide pastoral care including visitations, counselling, and the coordination of lay pastoral care
  • Help congregation and members in times of crisis
  • Assist with youth ministry and Sunday School
  • Lead or arrange for adult Bible study or religious education
• Community and Missions
  • Support Church missions including the Hyde Park-Kenwood Food Pantry
  • Help the Church define its ongoing mission in the community
• Church Administration and Staff Oversight
  • Oversee Church staff
  • Attend Church Board and committee meetings
  • Maintain regular office hours for members
• Historic Building and Space-Sharing Oversight
  • Support transition planning for and repair of historic building, and help find organizations interested in sharing of space
  • Oversee building administration and maintenance staff
  • Work with lay leaders to coordinate building staff, contractors, and space-sharers

Compensation
We offer a generous salary and benefits package commensurate with education and relevant experience, including the following:

Salary range: $60,000 to $80,000, including housing allowance; Pension; FICA offset; Health Insurance; Paid vacation, paid time off for illness/medical needs, paid bereavement leave;

Two-week continuing education leave per year; Sabbatical leave according to denominational recommendations.
