The mission of HPUC is to celebrate God’s diversity among us through inclusive, open and affirming Christian fellowship and service; to welcome and honor each person through all stages of life; and to pursue God’s justice in the world – with the promise of joy, liberation, and love.
Hyde Park Union Church is a diverse, open and affirming congregation affiliated with two denominations: American Baptist Churches-USA and United Church of Christ, spreading the Good News from our corner of Chicago.
Worship
"...the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. God has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives..."
- Isaiah 61:1
- Isaiah 61:1
Worship is a time to rejoice in the love and freedom of God. We believe that the Christian tradition offers an inspiring, relevant, and healing message for our times. Worship is the place for us to come together in song, prayer, preached word, and shared experience.
Fellowship
"God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them."
- 1 John 4:16
- 1 John 4:16
Jesus teaches us to love God, our neighbors, and ourselves, and we follow that call at Hyde Park Union Church. We celebrate our congregation's diversity, and are working to build a beloved community where all have a seat at the table.
Service
"and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God."
- Micah 6:8
- Micah 6:8
Our faith informs how we show up in the world, so our ministry extends beyond the church walls. From feeding the hungry, to engaging in interfaith conversation, to standing up for justice across the city, we are working for healing and transformation.
