Please join us for Worship any Sunday at 10 am
Hyde Park Union Church
5600 South Woodlawn Avenue
Chicago, Illinois 60637
We observe Communion together on the First Sunday of every month. Our Communion Table is open to all believers without prejudice.
Missions & Social Concerns Sundays
Following Worship on the Sunday preceding the Second Monday, we make Chili for the Soup Kitchen of the Hyde Park–Kenwood Hunger Programs. On Second Sundays, we also remember children and youth killed by violence in our city, and occasionally ask the congregation to consider writing a letter on an important public policy concern.
Coming to church
From Lakeshore Drive, take the 53rd Street exit and proceed west for ten blocks to Woodlawn Avenue. Turn left and travel south for three blocks to the red sandstone building on the right on the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and 56th Street.
From the Dan Ryan Expressway, take the Garfield Blvd. exit and travel east. Garfield turns north at Washington Park; go north one block, then east on 55th Street. The church is five blocks east, one block south, at Woodlawn Avenue and 56th Street.
The Church Office entrance is the side door on 56th Street.
Parking can be difficult during weekday business hours; on-street parking is generally not a problem on weekends. A multiple-story parking facility is available for a modest fee, with entrances at both Greenwood and Ellis Avenues, south of 55th Street (two blocks west the church). On-street parking is always easier a block or two north of 55th Street.
Our Sanctuary, Social Hall, and 1st Floor Restroom are handicap accessible. A wheelchair accessible entrance is located on the south side of the building on Woodlawn Avenue. Follow the sidewalk along the sanctuary and south garden. The inside lift provides access to the Social Hall. The Sanctuary is equipped with a FM transmitter for the hearing impaired. Large print hymnals and hearing aids are available on the back table.
